The Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Legislation Lawyer to support the Legal Division within a high profile Commonwealth Department.

This position is for a candidate with significant experience in legislation reform and development.

The Responsibilities

The position requires the successful candidate to:

• assist in the development of primary and subordinate legislation;
• prepare drafting instructions;
• drafting Explanatory Memorandum, and Explanatory Statements;
• issue ongoing instructions to the Office of Parliamentary Counsel; and
• draft advice on law design issues, particularly in relation to in biosecurity or export control law and/or cost recovery.

The Requirements

Extensive experience developing primary and subordinate Commonwealth legislation and legislative development projects and knowledge of or experience in in biosecurity or export control law and/or cost recovery would be highly regarded.

Legal qualifications, a current practicing certificate (or ability to obtain one) and a Baseline Security Clearance are required.
