Senior Legislation Lawyer (Baseline Clearance)
Initial secondment to June 2027
The Role
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Legislation Lawyer to support the Legal Division within a high profile Commonwealth Department.
This position is for a candidate with significant experience in legislation reform and development.
The Responsibilities
The position requires the successful candidate to:
- assist in the development of primary and subordinate legislation;
- prepare drafting instructions;
- drafting Explanatory Memorandum, and Explanatory Statements;
- issue ongoing instructions to the Office of Parliamentary Counsel; and
- draft advice on law design issues, particularly in relation to in biosecurity or export control law and/or cost recovery.
The Requirements
Extensive experience developing primary and subordinate Commonwealth legislation and legislative development projects and knowledge of or experience in in biosecurity or export control law and/or cost recovery would be highly regarded.
Legal qualifications, a current practicing certificate (or ability to obtain one) and a Baseline Security Clearance are required.
