Senior Lawyers – Administrative Law (Baseline Clearance)
Initial 4 to 6 month - possible extensions
The Role
We currently have secondment opportunities within a Commonwealth Agency that is seeking lawyers with extensive administrative law and statutory interpretation experience to work on a variety of legal projects.
The Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be required to work as a secondee within the Commonwealth clients’ in-house legal team. High level stakeholder engagement skills are required as the successful candidate could be required to provide advice and assistance to a wide range of client areas.
The successful candidate will be required to:
- provide specialist legal advice to internal stakeholders;
- support and mentor staff, including training to build knowledge and capability;
- manage a caseload of legal matters;
- provide legal and practical assistance in the development of agency policies, processes and procedures;
- prepare draft written material including submissions, reports and briefs for external legal providers;
- review material relating to draft legislation, including drafting instructions and draft bills,
- develop, support and maintain stakeholder relationships;
- contribute to projects and new business initiatives;
- provide quality assurance to ensure adherence to procedures and guidelines;
- develop and implement improvements and best practice in processes and procedures; and
- perform administrative tasks including records and information management and database management and document retrieval.
The Requirements
A current practising certificate (or ability to obtain one) and a current Baseline security clearance is essential.
The successful candidate will also have extensive experience advising on Commonwealth administrative law and statutory interpretation matters.
Previous experience advising on Centrelink, Child Support or Medicare matters would be highly regarded.
