Senior Lawyer – Administrative Law/Statutory Interpretation – Baseline Clearance
Initial secondment to 1 August 2025 with possible extension
The Role
We currently have a secondment opportunity within a Commonwealth Agency based in Canberra that is seeking a lawyer with administrative and commercial law experience to work on a variety of legal projects.
The Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be required to work as a secondee within the Commonwealth clients’ in-house legal team. High level stakeholder engagement skills are required as the successful candidate will be required toprovide advice and assistance to a wide range of client areas.
The successful candidate will provide a variety of legal advice on subjects including:
- statutory interpretation of legislation and sub-ordinate instruments;
- licencing management and compliance processes;
- applying administrative law principles to business decisions and advising on process issues;
- developing and interpreting ICT contract variations;
- providing advice with respect to regulated industries;
- responding to legal advice requests related to whole of government legislative such as the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013, the Privacy Act 1988 and the Freedom of nformation Act 1982; and
- providing advice related to leadership in managing complex legal issues and influencing decision making processes.
The Requirements
A current practising certificate (or ability to obtain one) and a current (minimum) Baseline security clearance experience is essential.
The successful candidate will also have extensive experience advising on Commonwealth administrative law, commercial law and statutory interpretation matters.
